The second April meeting held on April 25th served as a transitional meeting for both the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 representatives. It started with introductions of both old and new members and team updates, followed by a trivia activity on women in sports. The final votes for this year’s Inspirational Award also took place. Following, the relevance of fliers for Blazer Big Days (BBD) was discussed. A conclusion was reached that the SAAC representatives from the Sister Sport will be in charge of getting the word out to the campus whether it is through email or a Facebook event because the fliers are not effective. Challenges and ideas for next year’s BBD were discussed. Issues of concern were having a sister sport that is in season and not getting people to attend the BBD. Ideas for improvement were to involve St. John’s and initiate an all-sport contest to get higher attendance and participation in supporting the Blazers. A review of this year’s budget and comments from our year-end evaluation were then discussed, followed by goal setting leadership development activity. President Mindy Schmidt shared a PowerPoint summary of SAAC 2009-2010 highlights as the meeting ended.

The 1st of two April SAAC meetings began with team and Athletic Department updates. A guest to SAAC, Caitlin Goodman, spoke to the group about the Student Health Advisory Committee and ways to implement awareness and use of our on campus health center. Then a leadership development activity was conducted where ways to balance our schedules in an effected manner were discussed in small groups and then shared with all. Some ideas discussed were taking a step back and making lists. Next, a summary of the Blazer Buddies day camp and improvements were discussed because there were changes in the normal routine. The activities were conducted outside instead of in the gym and consisted of soccer, track and field and a softball component. There were many inputs from the athletes on how to make this work better the following year. The meeting started to wrap up with voting for the senior speakers at the May Awards Banquet, nominations for the Margy Hughes Inspirational Award and the 2010-2011 officers. The meeting ended with an announcement of the 2010-2011 officers and ideas for the next April meeting that will be a transitional meeting with the 2010-2011 representatives.

The latest SAAC meeting held on March 21st, 2010 started with updates from each of the teams and from the Athletic department. The Athletic department is making staff changes and is starting searches for a new head volleyball coach (and assistant athletic director), assistant athletic trainer and a fundraising lead. Ideas for the upcoming awards banquet  and our current standing in the all-MIAC sports races were also discussed. Katie Lambert shared a summary of the Women’s Month events that SAAC co-sponsored with the Institute for Women’s Leadership and discussed further ideas for more events with them. Following, Andrea Millerbernd share information about the MIAC SAAC service project Rebuilding Together which will take place on April 24th in either Minneapolis or St. Paul. Our own community outreach projects were then discussed. The first of our projects is a fundraiser for Haiti through a program that Kelly Donahue has set up. This fundraiser will raise money for an orphanage on Haiti that houses and feeds many children. The other is our semi-annual Blazer Buddies Program that will take place on April 10th and involves children from the St. Joseph area. The meeting focused on the last big topic of the successful SAAC semi-formal. A summary of this year was given and insights were shared about changes to make for next year. Ideas for next year’s program such as how effective was the cash bar and should we change the set-up of the desserts, were considered to make the dance a continuing success.  We closed with a reminder of upcoming meetings and events for the rest of the school year.
