2.1.2010 | Women's Nordic Skiing
The College of Saint Benedict nordic ski team came away with their second consecutive fifth place finish Sunday afternoon at the Telemark Lodge in Cable, WI. The Blazers scored a total of 53 points at the NCAA Qualifer #3 10K Freestyle race and were led by first-year skier
Megan Smith (Lakeville, MN, Lakeville North) and senior
Christi Nowak (Dayton, MN, Rogers). Smith finished 14th overall with a time of 0:33:15.0, and Nowak was close behind finishing in 15th place overall with a time 0:33:31.4.

1.30.2010 | Women's Nordic Skiing
The College of Saint Benedict nordic ski team placed fifth overall out of eight teams at the Telemark NCAA Qualifer #3 5K Classic race held in Cable, WI. The scoring was based on the top three finishers from each school. The Blazers scored 50 total points to edge out sixth place finisher Gustavus Adolphus College, who scored 49 points. Northern Michigan University won the event with three skiers in the top five overall for a total of 84 points.

1.25.10 | Women's Nordic Skiing
The College of Saint Benedict nordic ski team competed at the Mayor's Challenge SuperTour in Minneapolis over the weekend and came away with some impressive individual performances. CSB participated in the 5K Freestyle race on Saturday and the 10K Classic race on Sunday. The 5K race featured 163 finishers, while the 10K race had 112.

1.17.10 | Women's Nordic Skiing
The College of Saint Benedict Nordic Ski team came away with a fourth place finish at the Minnesota College Relays held at the SJU Trails in Collegeville, MN. The University of Alaska Fairbanks won the meet by taking the top two places to earn 23 total points. The Blazers used a fourth place and ninth place finish to score 13 points. CSB was edged out by the College of Saint Scholastic, who finished with 16 points, and Gustavus, who finished with 15.

The College of Saint Benedict Nordic Ski team kicked off the 2010 season with an impressive first place finish at the Saint's Invitational held at the SJU Trails in Collegeville, MN. First-year skier
Megan Smith (Lakeville, MN, Lakeville North) used a strong finish to take first place overall in her first collegiate race. Smith finished with a time 0:38:14. The Blazers finished with 44 total points.

Seven Nordic Skiers from the College of Saint Benedict were recently named to the NSCA All-Academic Ski Team. In order to qualify the skiers had to have a 3.5 or above GPA for the Fall term in 2008. Five of these Blazers that were named had a 4.0 GPA.

Junior
Christi Nowak (Dayton, MN, Rogers) closed out her historical season yesterday by finishing just one place away from qualifying for the NCAA Championships. With a Nordic season that is comprised of 5 classical and 5 freestyle races, competitors are ranked by their lowest two races throughout the year. The NCAA determines the qualifiers through a point system that calculates a skier’s time as a percentage back of the winner’s time. Nowak’s 11th place finish was the highest finish ever by any Blazer skier in the history of the program. Being named one of the alternates to the championships, the Blazers and Nowak’s future look bright as she still has one more year to qualify for the elusive race.

Racing in the first portion of the NCAA Central Regional Championship yesterday in Houghton, MI the College of Saint Benedict finished sixth overall with 53 points. Finishing above the likes of Saint Scholastica, Saint Olaf, and Saint Cloud State, the Blazers entered today’s 10K freestyle portion confident they could duplicate their results

The College of Saint Benedict Nordic ski team traveled to Cable, WI this weekend to take part in the 36th Annual American Birkebeiner. 7,461 skiers took part in this 50 kilometer race from Cable to Hayward, the second largest participation ever recorded for the event.
