CarthageCollege

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (6-3-0 MIAC, 10-5-1 overall) won their sixth straight contest in a 2-0 victory over Carthage College (0-6 CCIW, 6-11 overall) on Sunday afternoon in Collegeville, MN at Saint John’s University.

The Blazer offense struck early in the game when junior Kelly Suter (Plymouth, MN, Totino-Grace) scored at the 7:22 mark.  She was assisted on the play by sophomore Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) and junior Chelsi Larson (Minnesota City, MN, Winona Cotter).

The teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the half with the Blazers still head 1-0.  Saint Benedict was able to increase their lead, though, 45 seconds into the second half with a score made by first-year Jess Pellegrene (Maple Grove, MN, Totino-Grace), as she was assisted by junior Jillian Daleiden (Blaine, MN, Blaine).

The CSB defense was able to hold off the Carthage offensive attack for the rest of the game, as junior goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer (Rochester, MN, John Marshall) collected six saves in the win at the net.

The Blazers play their final regular season home game against Macalester on Wednesday, October 28 at 3:30 pm in St. Joseph, MN.
