Blazer Volleyball Loses 3-2 in Regional Quarterfinals

The #2-regionally-ranked College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (26-6 overall) ended their season with a sad loss as they were upset by #7-ranked Luther College 3-2 in the NCAA Division III Regional Quarterfinals.

The Blazers picked up wins in the first and third sets with scores of 25-15 in each match, obtaining .419 and .542 hitting percentages respectively.  They struggled in the second set with a -.029 hitting percentage, losing 25-12.  Luther forced the match into five sets with a 25-18 in the fourth set.  The Blazers just couldn't hang on, losing the fifth set with a close 15-13 scores.

CSB was led by senior outside hitter Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing), who had 16 kills, a .395 hitting percentage and three ace serves.  Behind her was junior right side hitter Kayli Schumacher (East Grand Forks, MN, Sacred Heart) with 12 kills and a.320 hitting percentage.  Sophomore outside hitter Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forrest Lake) had 14 digs for the Blazers.  Senior setter Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) contributed 42 assist.

This will conclude the Blazers' season with a 26-6 record overall.

Athletes of the Week
Danielle Busch
This week's Blazer Athlete of the Week is junior Danielle Busch (New Prague, MN, New Prague). Busch took first in the pole vault last Saturday with a height of 3.45 meters. This height is higher than where Busch started last season and is the best performance in the conference this season.
