Blazers Capture Second at Gustavus

The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team returned to action Saturday, Nov. 21 in St. Peter, MN for the Gustavus Triangular.  The Blazers who placed second, had many outstanding performances including seven first place finishes.

The Blazers were highlighted by, first-year Isabel Pennings (Hayden Lake, ID, Gonzaga Prep School) who earned four first place finishes and continued to shine for the Blazers. She took first in the 50 freestyle (25.18 sec.), and100 butterfly (1:02.72 min.) . Pennings along with first-year Katie Kaiser (Dassel, MN., Dassel Cokato High School), junior Amanda Koehler (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater Area) and first-year Kathy Nystorm (Foreston, MN, Milaca High School) placed first in the 200 Medley Relay (1:58.27). Pennings also teamed with sophmore Katie Peters (Southside, AL, Our Lady of Good Counsel Home School), first-year Mary Wood (Rochester, MN., Rochester Lourdes High School) and first-year Samantha Kessler (Plymouth, MN., Providence Academy) to earn first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:42.95). Other first place finishes came from:  Kessler in the 100 backstroke (1:04.40), Carolyn Triggs (Edina, MN, Edina) in the 200 Individual Medley (2:17.27) and in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.31) made up of Kessler, Triggs, Peters and Mary Wood (Rochester, MN., Rochester Lourdes High School).

The Blazers will return to the pool Dec. 4 in Minneapolis MN. For the Falcon Invitational.

Athletes of the Week
Danielle Busch
This week's Blazer Athlete of the Week is junior Danielle Busch (New Prague, MN, New Prague). Busch took first in the pole vault last Saturday with a height of 3.45 meters. This height is higher than where Busch started last season and is the best performance in the conference this season.
