Blazers defeat the Tommies

The Blazers competed in their meet today against the Tommies of University of Saint Thomas. It was a tough competition and each athlete gave it their all and because of that, the College of Saint Benedict came out on top with a score of 160 Blazers, 138 Tommies. 

There were a number of first place finishes, as well as many other top finishers. The first place finishers consisted of Abbey Brau (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) in the 1000 yard Freestyle, Madeline Burns (Houston, TX., Saint Agnes Academy) in the 100 yard Breaststroke and also took second in the 200 yard Breaststroke, and Carolyn Triggs (Edina, MN, Edina) who earned the fist place spot in the 500 yard Freestyle and the 200 yard IM.  Then in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay, Katie Peters (Southside, AL, Our Lady of Good Counsel Home School), Mary Wood (Rochester, MN., Rochester Lourdes High School), Isabel Pennings (Hayden Lake, ID, Gonzaga Prep School), and Samantha Kessler (Plymouth, MN., Providence Academy) took first at 3:42. 59.

Other top finishers for the Blazers were Triggs who took second in the 200 yard Freestyle at 1:59.71, at 2:25.36, Chelsea Jenson (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata) took second in the 200 yard Butterfuly and Kessler who took second in both the 50 yard Freestyle and the 100 yard Freestyle. The team Katie Kaiser (Dassel, MN., Dassel Cokato High School), Amanda Koehler (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater Area), along with Triggs, and Pennings took second place in the 200 yard Medley Relay with a finishing time of 1:56.45. All the performances at today's meet were remarkable and every Blazer should be proud of what they accomplished.

Diving

In the diving portion of the meet, the Blazers came out with high scores all around. In the one meter dive, Jessi Haider (Grey Eagle, MN, Melrose High School) ended the event with 192.75 points followed by Elise Genereux (Mound, MN, Watertown-Mayer) with 187.85 points. Then in the three meter dive, Genereux and Haider switched places putting Genereux in first with 189.75 points followed by Haider with 169.35 points.

Athletes of the Week
Julia Renner
Renner placed first and second in the triple jump and long jump respectively at the MIAC Championships.  Her winning jump of 11.23 meters in the triple jump met an NCAA provisional mark as well.
