Blazers Bounce Back, Sweep Knights 6-2, 8-0
The College of Saint Benedict softball team picked up a pair of wins Sunday afternoon over Carleton College to improve to 7-7 in the MIAC.  The Blazers (7-7 MIAC, 11-15 overall) broke out of their offensive slump by collecting 12 hits in each game on their way to a 6-2, 8-0 sweep of the Knights.

In Game 1, Carleton jumped out to a 2-0 lead by scoring two runs in the top of the third inning.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Blazers tallied four hits and benefits from two Carleton errors to take a commanding 5-2 lead.  CSB did a lot of damage with two outs in the inning as senior Genna Strauss (Red Wing, MN, Red Wing) knocked in sophomore Alyssa Kubesh (Buffalo Lake, MN, Buffalo Lake-Hector), and Elle Borba (Ontario, CA, St. Lucy's Priory) drove in Strauss and sophomore Abby Richardson (Storm Lake, IA, St. Mary's).  The Blazers added a run in the fifth inning to make it 6-2.

Richardson, Strauss, Borba, Kubesh, and sophomore Devin Bowlin (Winona, MN, Winona Cotter) collected two hits apiece in Game 1.  Emma Alwin (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata) picked up the win for CSB by going all seven innings and striking out four.

In Game 2, the Blazers got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Richardson singled to start the game, stole second and third base, and scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the game.  The next batter, Jillian Rigg (Billings, MT, Central Catholic), doubled and later scored on a base hit by Borba.  CSB used a four run fourth inning to put the game away.  Sophomore Kristen Herges (Rochester, MN, John Marshall) and Strauss had 2 RBIs apiece in the inning.

Borba picked up the win on the mound for the Blazers by going four innings, only allowing two hits, and striking out four.  Sophomore Laura Althoff (Jordan, MN, Jordan) pitched the final two innings for the Blazers and struck out two.  Strauss led the CSB offense by going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs.  Richardson went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while sophomore Kirsten Fasching (Montrose, MN, Watertown-Mayer) added a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a double and an RBI.

CSB will host Augsburg College on Tuesday, April 21.  The doubleheader will start at 4 p.m.
