Blazers Hold Off Cobbers, Earn Split
The CSB softball team entered Saturday afternoon's game with the hopes of closing the season on a positive note.  After dropping six straight, including the Cobbers 8-0 victory in Game 1, the Blazers were determined to get a win in the final game for seniors Jillian Rigg (Billings, MT, Central Catholic) and Genna Strauss (Red Wing, MN, Red Wing).  CSB (9-13 MIAC, 13-21 overall) was successful as they held off a late rally by Concordia College to escape with a 2-1 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.

In Game 1, the Cobbers used a grand slam in the top of the first inning to jump out to a quick 5-0 lead.  The Blazers were never able to recover and only collected two hits in the game, which were singles from Rigg and sophomore Devin Bowlin (Winona, MN, Winona Cotter).  Concordia blasted two more homeruns, one in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning, as they took Game 1 8-0.

In Game 2, Rigg broke open a scoreless game with a two-run shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the third inning to give CSB a 2-0 lead.  Concordia threatened in the top of the seventh inning, but the Blazers were able to strand the tying run on third base.

Rigg's two-run homerun was her third long ball of the season, and she finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.  Strauss and sophomore Kristen Herges (Rochester, MN, John Marshall) added the only other hits for the Blazers.  Sophomore pitcher Elle Borba (Ontario, CA, St. Lucy's Priory) held the Cobbers in check and only allowed six hits.  The win was Borba's fourth of the season.

CSB finished the season 9-13 in the MIAC and 13-21 overall.
