The College of Saint Benedict outdoor track and field team placed third at the MIAC Championships with 84 total points, tying their best finish under head coach Robin Balder-Lanoue. Sophomore
Abby Neigebauer (Waseca, MN, Waseca) and senior
Mary Schletty (St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) won events for the Blazers.
Neigebauer won the 100 mater dash with an NCAA Provisional time of 12.24 seconds. Her performance set the new school record in the 100m dash, too. She also took second in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 25.76 seconds.
Schletty won the triple jump with a distance of 11.02 meters. First-year
Julia Renner (Shoreview, MN, Mounds View) finished right behind Schletty for second with a jump of 10.91 meters.
In other events, sophomore
Jillian Daleiden (Blaine, MN, Blaine) took fourth in the 400m dash and junior
Alyx Chapman (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater Area) placed fifth in the 1500m run and 10th in the 5000m run. Senior
Maggie Donahue (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata) finished sixth in the 3000m steeplechase and junior
Heidi Golliet (Coon Rapids, MN, Coon Rapids) placed ninth in the hammer throw.
The Blazers also found success in their relay teams. Their best finish was under the 4x100m relay team of
Allison Eckrich (Spearfish, SD, Spearfish),
Patty King (St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall), Daleiden and Neigebauer, taking second. The 4x800m relay team placed fifth and the 4x400 meter relay team placed sixth.
The Blazers next travel to La Crosse, WI for the Wisconsin-La Crosse Last Chance Meet on Thursday, May 14 at 4 pm.
