BOX SCORE

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (10-4 overall, 8-3 MIAC) suffered its third conference loss to Gustavus 66-63, slipping into fourth place in the MIAC.

Gustavus jumped a 10-0 lead over CSB within the first three minutes of the half.  The Blazers compiled a 10-6 run before the Gusties began to extend their lead further.  Gustavus was soon ahead 30-16, and despite the Blazers' efforts, they trailed by 18 points at 41-23 at the half.

CSB came out of the locker room a different team, shooting 61% from the field compared to 31% in the first half.  The Blazers put together an 15-5 run to bring the score to 46-39 with 13 points remaining.  With four minutes remaining, CSB still trailed by seven.  A 9-6 Blazer run brought the score with four points with 30 seconds left on the clock.  Junior wing Mindy Schmidt (Brooklyn Park, MN, Champlin Park) drained a three-pointer to bring the score within one with five seconds remaining, but the Blazers couldn't come back, eventually losing 66-63.

The Blazers were led by junior wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer), who had 15 points.  Junior post Heather Gillund (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) scored 14 points, included 6-for-6 from the freethrow line.  She also grabbed nine rebounds.

This marks the midpoint in conference play for CSB.  They next host Bethel on Wed., Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
