Blazers Pick Up Another Win Over Carleton

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (12-4 overall, 10-3 MIAC) shot a 44% from the field, including a 42% from beyond the arc, in a 76-55 win over Carleton this afternoon.

Carleton started the game with a 6-3 lead over CSB, but the Blazers were able to take back the lead 10-8 with 15 minutes remaining in the half.  They compiled a 7-2 run to jumped ahead 17-10, continually extending their lead throughout the half, heading into the locker room with a 39-26 cushion.

The second half began with a CSB 13-5 run over the four minute of play.  Another 10-5 run put the Blazers ahead by 23 with a score of 64-41 with 10 minutes remaining.  With five minutes remaining, CSB found themselves ahead 74-45, a 29 points lead.  Though the Knights put together a 10-2 run to finish the game, the Blazers came out on top 76-55.

Twelve Blazers scored in the win, led by junior wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer), who was 7-for-11 from the field, including 5-for-7 from behind the three-point line and 4-for-4 from the freethrow line for a total of 23 points.  Junior forward Laura Canton (Pine Island, MN, Pine Island) contributed 11 points.

The Blazers continue their road games as they travel to St. Catherine on Wed., Jan. 27 to play the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.

Julia Renner
Renner placed first and second in the triple jump and long jump respectively at the MIAC Championships.  Her winning jump of 11.23 meters in the triple jump met an NCAA provisional mark as well.
