Blazers Dominate Macalester Invitational

The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team participated in the two-day Macalester Invitational. The Blazers set four pool records, which put them in first-place after day one.

The pool records were set by the 800 freestyle relay team of Samantha Kessler (Plymouth, MN., Providence Academy), Abbey Brau (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie), Chelsea Jenson (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata) and Carolyn Triggs (Edina, MN, Edina), Samantha Kessler also set the 200 freestyle record while Carolyn Triggs and Abbey Brau broke the 200 IM and 500 Freestyle records respectively.

Day two would prove to be more of the same as the Blazers continued their dominance.  The Blazers placed first in eight events. Carolyn Triggs placed first in the 400 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 IM, 800 freestyle relay along with Samantha Kessler, Abbey Brau and Chelsea Jenson (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata) and the 400 freestyle relay along with Katie Peters (Southside, AL, Our Lady of Good Counsel Home School), Katie Kaiser (Dassel, MN., Dassel Cokato High School) and Samantha Kessler. Other first-place finishes were earned by Samantha Kessler in the 200 freestyle and Chelsea Jenson in the 200 butterfly.

In the end the Blazer would cruise to victory tallying a total of 787.5 followed by St. Catherine (584.5), Macalester College (435), Augsburg (132) and Concordia Moorhead (67). The Blazers return to action Feb. 18 – Feb. 20 when they travel to Minneapolis, MN to compete in the MIAC Conference Meet.

Athletes of the Week
Julia Renner
Renner placed first and second in the triple jump and long jump respectively at the MIAC Championships.  Her winning jump of 11.23 meters in the triple jump met an NCAA provisional mark as well.
