Blazers Cruise to 83-56 Victory Over Augsburg

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (17-5 overall, 15-4 MIAC) defeated Augsburg 83-56 in St. Joseph, Minn.

The Blazers began the game with a 10-6 lead over the Auggies before stringing together an 18-4 run to jump ahead 28-10 with nine minutes remaining in the half.  CSB continued to keep their distance from Augsburg, pulling ahead by 20 at one point before heading into the locker room with a 44-27 lead.

The Auggies brought the score within 14 at 50-36 with 17 minutes to go, but 10-4 and 13-8 Blazer runs brought CSB ahead 73-48 with five minutes to go.  A 46% field-goal percentage kept the Blazers in the lead as they went on to win 83-56

CSB was led by junior wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer), who was 9-for-10 from the field for a total of 21 points, 17 of which came in the first half alone.  Junior post Heather Gillund (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) contributed 19 points, while junior wing Joelle Waytashek (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) added 14 points off of 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.

The Blazers next travel to the University of St. Thomas, where they take on the Tommies at 3 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 13 at the Concordia-St. Paul campus.

Athletes of the Week
Danielle Busch
This week's Blazer Athlete of the Week is junior Danielle Busch (New Prague, MN, New Prague). Busch took first in the pole vault last Saturday with a height of 3.45 meters. This height is higher than where Busch started last season and is the best performance in the conference this season.
