The College of Saint Benedict nordic ski team competed at the NCAA Qualifier #4 over the weekend in Ishpeming, Michigan. The Blazers came away with a fifth place finish out of nine teams in the 5K Classic race on Saturday and followed that up with a sixth place finish in the 15K Freestyle race on Sunday. Megan Smith (Lakeville, MN, Lakeville North) and senior skier
Katelyn Engel (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata) placed in the top three for CSB in both races.
Smith led the Blazers in the 5K Classic race with an impressive ninth place finish overall with a time of 0:15:22.9. Engel was next with a 22nd place finish overall at 0:16:04.3, and senior
Anna Roessler (Grand Rapids, MN, Grand Rapids) finished 33rd at 0:16:26.7. The Blazers scored a total of 47 points in the 5K race.
In the 15K Freestyle race, senior
Christi Nowak (Dayton, MN, Rogers) finished in 0:41:43.4 and placed 18th overall. Smith finished 21st with a time of 0:42:07.3, and Engel finished 29th at 0:43:36.0. Nowak, Smith, and Engel combined to give CSB 45 total points.
The Blazers will compete at the NCAA Regional Championships on February 20-21 in Houghton, Michigan.
