Basketball Edges St. Olaf 54-41

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (16-4 overall, 14-3 MIAC) defeated St. Olaf College 54-41 in Northfield, Minn., this evening.

St. Olaf jumped a 6-0 lead over CSB, but the Blazers tied the score at eight with 12 minutes remaining on the clock.  Both teams were scoreless for the next six minutes of play before the Oles inched ahead 10-8.  Five lead changes later, the Blazers were ahead 19-17 and went into halftime with a 25-20 score.

CSB started the second half with a 7-0 run to lead 32-20.  The Blazers kept their distance from the Oles, possessing a 17-point lead of 52-35 at one points in the game.  CSB went on to win 54-41.

The Blazers were led by junior Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer), who has 12 points.  Junior post Heather Gillund (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) totalled eight points and six blocks, while junior point guard Devin Bowlin (Winona, MN, Winona Cotter) had seven rebounds for CSB.

Up next, the Blazers take on the Cobbers of Concordia on Sat., Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. in Claire Lynch.  CSB athletics will also be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day that afternoon, honoring Libby (Becker) Auger with the Breaking Barriers Award.

Athletes of the Week
Danielle Busch
This week's Blazer Athlete of the Week is junior Danielle Busch (New Prague, MN, New Prague). Busch took first in the pole vault last Saturday with a height of 3.45 meters. This height is higher than where Busch started last season and is the best performance in the conference this season.
