The University of St. Thomas shutout the College of Saint Benedict softball team twice Wednesday evening in St. Paul, Minn. The Tommies defeated the Blazers 8-0 in the opener and 6-0 in the nightcap.
In the opener, UST pitcher Christy Gries threw a five-inning no hitter. Junior right fielder
Alyssa Kubesh (Buffalo Lake, MN, Buffalo Lake-Hector) was the only Blazer baserunner in the game. Kubesh reached on an error with one out in the top of the second inning.
In the nightcap, the Tommies outhit the Blazers 17 to six. CSB was led by junior second baseman
Devin Bowlin (Winona, MN, Winona Cotter), who was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double. Senior shortstop
Shannon Eveland (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) added a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, and junior
Abby Richardson (Storm Lake, IA, St. Mary's) and Kubesh also collected singles for CSB.
The Blazers will host Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, May 1 in the final doubleheader of the season. Game time is 1 p.m.
