Box Score

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (1-0 overall, 0-0 MIAC) outshot the University of Minnesota-Morris (0-1 overall, 0-0 UMAC) 30-1 to earn a 2-1 overtime win on Wednesday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.

The Blazers first goal came at the 31 minute mark of the first half when sophomore forward Paige Olson (Plymouth, MN, West Lutheran) passed the ball up the middle to sophomore forward Clare Murn (Canton, GA, St. Cloud Technical), who buried it in the back of the net.  The Cougar's remained scoreless until three minutes into the second half when first year forward Melissa Denler tapped in a shot that just snuck by senior goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer (Rochester, MN, John Marshall).

The game remained tied until the 98:32 mark when Blazers junior midfielder Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove)crossed the ball to sophomore midfielder Hannah Frost (Mahtomedi, MN, Mahtomedi). Frost headed the ball past the Cougar's goalkeeper to give the Blazers their first win of the season.

The Blazers host non conference opponent Wartburg College on Saturday September 4th, at 3:30 p.m. in St. Joseph.
