The College of Saint Benedict basketball team kept their season alive as they upset no. 10-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 67-59 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Senior forward ArielTauer had a double-double in tonight’s game, scoring a career-high 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Sophomore wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) contributed 15 points, while sophomore forward Laura Canton (Pine Island, MN, Pine Island) had 11 points. Sophomore post Danielle Frank (Caledonia, MN, Caledonia) grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
Center Tiffany Morton led UW-Whitewater with 16 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Kelsey Hendrickson contributed 13 points.
CSB advances to the sectionals of the NCAA tournament to play Washington University at St. Louis. Date, time and location to be determined.

Simpson College 59
Three players were in double figures as the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated Simpson College 69-59 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament Friday at Claire Lynch Hall.
Senior center Tiffany Morton had 16 points and added 11 rebounds to pace the Warhawks (23-4 overall), who led 28-18 at halftime. Junior guard Heidi Sonntag added 13 points, and junior guard Kelsey Hendrickson scored 12 points and added six rebounds.
Simpson was led by senior center Maria Oliver’s 20 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Carrie Larson had 12 points and five rebounds for the Storm, who finish the season 24-4 overall.

College of Saint Benedict 55
Ripon College 42
The College of Saint Benedict basketball team remains undefeated at home (15-0) after beating Ripon College 55-42 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Sophomore wing Amy Stifter led the scoring with 16 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Senior forward Ariel Tauer contributed 11 points, while sophomore post Danielle Frank grabbed 13 rebounds and had three blocks.
Ripon was led by sophomore guard Emily Meyer, who had 12 points. Junior guards Emily Meyerand Ashley Meister contributed nine points each.
